5 Business Books Every Business Owner Should Read

Luke and I believe there are certain books every business owner and creative should have on their bookshelf. We are advocates for continuing to grow yourself and business through quality training and education. One of our favorite mediums of learning is through reading books.

Where else could we connect with powerful thought leaders of our generation and the generations before? We get the privilege of peering into their mind and tactics in the comfort of our home.

If it was up to me, we would be attending every Entreleadership Summit and live event ever created. However, budget and time don’t always allow for it. Reading has been a tremendous tool to uplevel our knowledge without breaking the bank on conferences.

In the words of Ramsey, “Leaders are readers”.

Today, we are sharing 5 business books every business owner should read.

Being an entrepreneur can be overwhelming whether you’re a seasoned business owner or new to the business world. The process can be daunting and can feel like you’re swimming in the deep end. But we believe these five books can be transformative to giving you confidence and the right tools to run a successful business.

There are hundreds of incredible books we have read and some that are still waiting in the queue. We are sharing these books based on what has helped our business push the needle ahead. Without further ado, here are 5 business books every business owner should read.

#1 Entreleadership by Dave Ramsey

If you’re new around here, you most likely haven’t caught on to my enthusiasm about the Ramsey culture. We are big Dave Ramsey people both in our personal life and business. We follow his philosophies and have seen the tremendous impact they’ve had.

The Entreleadership book and podcast have in many ways shaped our business. Dave grew his business from a card table into a multi-million dollar company. Whether you believe in running a business off loans or going cash free, this book has information that will help you grow a competitive business.

This book is the recipe to running a profitable business where the company culture is strong and healthy. It will inspire you to take charge of your business and be an EntreLeader.

#2 Start With Why by Simon Sinek

Please friend, if you haven’t grabbed a copy of this book – RUN – to the nearest bookstore and grab a copy. If we had the power we would hand this book out to every business owner.

Why, do we love it so much? It’s the process that we used to examine our business and how we work with clients. Developing a brand and website can be so overwhelming without understanding why.

The book outlines the reason we should Start With Why and how it will affect our brand and the trajectory the business. Why is not about calculating profit or articulating what we do. Why is what gets us out of bed every morning.

#3 Business Boutique by Christy Wright

I want to preface this by saying this book is geared towards woman run businesses. However, Christy offers incredible insightful advice for starting a business from the ground up. She will take you from dreaming to learning about LLC vs Sole Proprietorship.

This is a practical book that will help give you the tools to start or growing to the next level. Christy Wright will give you practical steps to cultivate your business. It’s an easy read with action steps at the end of every chapter. It’s hands on and will help walk you through the most common business steps from start to finish.

#4 Hello, Startup by Yevgeniy Brikman

The fourth book on our list has more of a technology mindset to start a new business. However, this book is practical for anyone hoping to take their startup from working in a garage to a six-figure company.

The book is broken up in three different parts. The first and third parts are the most applicable to every business, and part two is more technology focused. Brikman offers incredible insight and encouragement from thought-provokers who have paved the way.

Hello, Startup will offer encouragement, actionable steps, and warnings on how to create and grow a successful startup.

#5 The Road Back To You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile

Lastly, we had to throw in a personal development book. The best version of your business starts with being the best version of yourself. We are all striving to be the best and industry leader of our market. However, that starts with understanding the person in the mirror. And to best understand yourself that starts with understand your Enneagram type.

I believe everyone has a secret sauce and finding your personality type allows you to live with intention and purpose. Navigating through business and life can be difficult but thankfully there are tools, like the Enneagram, that can make the process easier.

The Road Back To You is an easy read that will examine the nine different types under the Enneagram. The book goes into detail of the history of the Enneagram as well as how each type works. There are both healthy and unhealthy versions of each type. The book will take you through each type and how to develop strengths in each part.

Next week on the blog we are sharing how I used my enneagram type to benefit our business. In the meantime, let us know in the comments what business book you couldn’t live without.
